Gua Sha

A technique that utilizes a therapeutic scraping and friction method

Very similar to cupping, Gua Sha is a technique that utilizes a therapeutic “scraping” and friction method.  From a small, hand-held spoon, or copper or metal tool, the practitioner will use a scrapping method to resolve what is known as “Sha Syndrome,” a disease caused by “wind invasion”, or external pathogenic factors (EPF). These EPFs block the meridians, which can lead to pain, distention, chills, fever, numbness, and even rigidity in the body.

Aside from Gua Sha, there are other techniques that may be utilized, such as Pao Sha, or “digging,” for the treatment of blood stasis, and Meng Sha, or “pinching” for the treatment of phlegm accumulation.
